Minority Women Business Enterprises (MWBE) face unique challenges with strategic growth. Our CEO, Vanessa Best, has learned how to navigate the business world of certifications and shares those processes with small businesses.
Vanessa’s love of teaching and “paying it forward” has motivated her to continue as an adjunct instructor at various local colleges where she is able to help many students beyond the classroom with providing internships and mentoring on business development. She states “My late mother, an amazing hard working single parent always instilled in me a wise man’s statement that “there is more happiness in giving than receiving”, that principle helps me in all aspects of my life and provides me with true satisfaction. I am passionate about helping other business owners succeed and the WENYC program is one way that will provide the formal structure to accomplish that goal.”
Vanessa was selected as an inaugural WENYC mentor the NYC Small Business Services Agency. The initiative in NYC is to help women and immigrant business owners start and grow their business. She provides free training and mentoring in NYC at SBS business help centers. She is also a blogger for the Huffington Post.

Vanessa is also a Business Consultant and Strategic Planning Instructor for the “Emerging Leaders USA” thru the Small Business Administration.
As a Consultant to Interise, she performs instructor services related to the delivery of Interise’s StreetWise Steps to Small Business Growth ™ curriculum (“StreetWise Steps™) to small business owners; as part of the New York, Long Island Area Small Business Administration Emerging Leaders Initiative. The SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative is a federal training initiative that specifically focuses on executives of businesses poised for growth in historically challenged communities. The initiative provides these executives with the organizational framework, resource network, and motivation required to build sustainable businesses and promote the economic development within urban communities.
Responsibility include:
- Facilitating the 13-session curriculum
- The establishment of CEO mentoring groups
- Conducting one-on-one business coaching sessions,
- Arranging guest speakers
- Assisting the business owners with the preparation of their “Strategic Growth Plan”, which is presented at the end of the program.
