We are thrilled to announce that our CEO Vanessa Best will be one of the business mentors for Ascend Long Island, a program borne out of a joint partnership between JP Morgan Chase and Hofstra University.
Ascend Long Island is a suburban model of Ascend 2020, an endeavor that seeks to fuel the growth of minority-owned businesses and inner-city enterprises.
Best explained that essentially, the overall goal of the Ascend business learning model is to provide small business owners based in underserved communities access to capital and key resources in the areas of procurement. Ascend Long Island, to illustrate, will cater to “The Corridor”, a cluster of underserved communities within Nassau County composed of Hempstead Village, Freeport Village, Roosevelt, and Uniondale. Through this, Ascend Long Island hopes to create a sustainable network of support among entrepreneurs and communities.
According to Best, she felt “humbled” when the opportunity was broached to her by Hofstra University, where she served as a Community Technical Advisor to the university’s Healthcare Entrepreneurship Community Challenge (HECC), a program that challenged entrepreneurs to develop solutions to healthcare issues faced by underserved communities in the New York City metropolitan area.
“There were no programs like Ascend 2020 when I started my journey with my business in 1995 from a bedroom in my apartment,” said Best. “Through the years, however, I’ve benefited from multiple resources, programs, and even amazing mentors that have helped me grow.”
To date, as the CEO of Precision HealthCare Consultants, Best now operates two offices (one in New York and another in Atlanta) and spearheads teams that handle corporate, state, and federal government contracts for healthcare administration operations. Precision is certified by the US SBA as an 8(a), HubZONE, WOSB, EDWOSB; Empire State Development – NYS MWBE, and Corporate NMSDC.
Best opined that success should be paid forward, which is why she’s ecstatic to be a part of Ascend Long Island. “I would be more than honored and happy if I can share one tidbit to make a difference in the life of an entrepreneur, especially those in The Corridor in Nassau County” she said. “It would be awesome to help them grow and take their businesses to greater heights!”
